Increase patients awareness through engagement
Product: Bowel Cancer App
Responsibilities: Empathy maps, user flow, IA, UX, UI, Visual design
Award: Winner of Prime Awards 2016 - Excellence in Patient/Customer Support 🏆
Overview
Bowel Cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia and second leading cause of cancer deaths, largely due to the lack of education and awareness of the risks. The customer wanted to create a digital solution that targets younger demographics, provides up-to-date information on bowel cancer prevention, early detection and management. All to be done without storing sensitive patient data online due to the healthcare industry regulations.
My Role
Being the only designer on the project, I worked with the customer and product manager to set initial product visions - create a safe environment for patient to patient/carer interactions, helping patients to set fitness and dietary goals and an easy way to seek professional medical advise. By leverage mobile technologies, my goal was to create engaging patient experience while solving the key pain points.
The Result
The end solution is a mobile app featured - secure 1:1 patients finder and connect, daily diet and physical activity tracking, self assessments, professional services finder and regular screening reminders. The app provides answers to questions about bowel cancer which many people feel uncomfortable asking and continues to make it easier for people to access relevant bowel cancer information. It consistently featured in the top 100 medical apps in both the App Store and Android Store, and was the winner of Prime Awards 2016 - Excellence in Patient/Customer Support.
